February 1, 2010 - Surgeon General's Vision for a Healthy and Fit Nation

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has released The Surgeon General’s Vision for a Healthy and Fit Nation. In an effort to stop the obesity epidemic in the U.S., Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Surgeon General Regina Benjamin have joined First Lady Michelle Obama in helping Americans lead healthier lives through better nutrition, regular physical activity, and encouraging communities to support healthy choices. This report highlights overweight and obese trends in Americans and asks them to join in her effort to commit to changes that promote the health and wellness of families and communities.
