Emma Torres, M.S.W.

Arizona Member

Emma Torres, M.S.W.Emma Torres has been a strong border-community leader, and a health advocate for migrant and seasonal farm workers in Western Arizona for more than 20 years.

She is co-founder and Executive Director of Campesinos Sin Fronteras, a grassroots, community-based organization, and one of the pioneers of the Promotora model program in Arizona. Ms. Torres serves as the Vice President for the Sunset Community Health Center Board of Directors.

The Mexican General Consulate recognized Ms. Torres as the Representative of Mexicans Abroad from among 80 community leaders nationwide. Because of her community leadership and many contributions, Ms. Torres has been the recipient of various recognitions and awards, including the Robert Wood Johnson National Leadership Award; the Orgullo Hispano; the U.S.-Mexico Border Health Association Health Care Worker of the Year; and, in 2005, the Mexican General Consulate in Yuma, Arizona, honored Ms. Torres with the Ohtil award.

Emma holds a bachelor’s and a master's degree in social work.

Emma was appointed a member of the U.S. Section, U.S.-México Border health Commission in October 2003. She has contributed in many ways to the work of the Commission and currently serves as a member of the Communications and Outreach Work Group and as the U.S. Co-chair of the Program, Planning and Evaluation Committee.
