Dan Reyna, MSS, MPA
General Manager In May 2006, Dan joined the U.S.-Mexico Border Health Commission as the General Manager of the U.S. Section, Office of Global Health Affairs, Office of the Secretary, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Immediately prior to assuming this position, Dan served from 1993 to 2006 as the Director of the New Mexico Office of Border Health, New Mexico Department of Health in Las Cruces, New Mexico. From 1983-1993, Dan served with the Texas Department of Health in Harlingen, Texas. Dan is a past-President of the U.S.-Mexico Border Health Association and was recognized as the Association’s Health Worker of the Year in 2002. He was a charter founder and Chairman of the South Texas Area Health Education Center developed in partnership with the UT Health Science Center – San Antonio (1991-1992) and was the community’s representative to the University of Texas System Advisory Committee in the development of the UT System Texas-Mexico Border Health Coordination Office, founded in Edinburg, Texas in 1991. Dan has extensive prior experience as an invited speaker on border health and leadership topics and was a joint contributor for the chapter on “Border Health Issues” in the publication, Border Health: Challenges to the United States and Mexico; (Garland Press, 1997). Dan is retired from the U.S. Army Reserve (Colonel – Civil Affairs Branch), having served in Afghanistan (2003-2004) as the Senior Health Action Officer and Coalition Forces Liaison to multiple national ministries including the Ministry of Health, prior service in Bosnia-Herzogovina and Hungary and wide-ranging experience in conducting civic-action projects in Central America. Dan earned a Bachelor of Science (Political Science, History and Secondary Education) from Texas A&I University, Kingsville, Texas (1974), a Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas at El Paso, El Paso, Texas (1982) and a Master of Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania (2000).
